About Our Senior Pastor
Rev. Dr. Milton A. Hathaway is the son of the late Reverend J. Wallace an Deaconess Reather P. Hathaway, former Senior Pastor and First Lady of Grayland Baptist Church, of Richmond, VA.
He is married to Dr. Sylvia Lewis Hathaway (A Retired Unit Coordinator for Virginia Cooperative Extension) and they are the proud parents of four children; Rodney (New Kent's County Administrator), Tamika, (A New Kent Middle School Teacher), Angela (Administrative Assistant to NCCC Cooperative Ministries and Workforce Management Analyst for Anthem Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Richmond, and Randy (deceased); and even prouder grandparents of Jordan, Joshua, Julia, Alyvia, Jamison and Jared Hathaway.
Dr. Hathaway was licensed as a minister on July 25, 1981 and ordained on December 13, 1983. He is the former pastor of Union Hope and Second Liberty Baptist Churches and currently serves as Senior Pastor of New Covenant Community Church in Quinton, Virginia and Without Walls Ministries in Richmond, Virginia, a church dedicated to reaching and restoring hope to the homeless and hurting while empowering them to make a difference in the life of their community.
His leadership abilities were honed during over 30 years of military service to his country as a member of the Virginia Air National Guard and U. S. Air Force Reserves. His love for teaching was inspired by his mother and sharpened in the military as a certified U.S. Air Force Instructor and Chief Inspector. His academic preparation includes Liberty University, Newburgh Theological Seminary, and American Bible University, where he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree in August 2012 for his work with at-risk children and merging ministry with community development. He served on a national panel that dealt with the theme, "High Stakes Testing and At-Risk Children" co-sponsored by Howard University and Harvard Divinity School.
He was the recipient of a W.G. Kellogg Foundation Grant to study leadership development at Va. Tech; and was one of 50 leaders from across North America selected to attend the Harvard Divinity School's Center for the Study of Values in Public Life, during the summer of 2001.
Dr. Hathaway's community service projects are numerous. Among them, he is the former executive director of A Community That Cares - Alternative Education Center (ACT-C); former vice-chairman of the Quinn Rivers Agency for Community Action; former member and chairman of the New Kent Planning Commission; former executive director of New Kent Community Development Corporation. He is a founding member of United Ministries Joint Conference (formerly known as the Baptist Ministers Union of New Kent & Vicinity), and currently serves as executive director of Covenant Connections Community Development Corporation, and is a member of the Pastors for Pastors Network of Richmond, Va. In addition, Dr. Hathaway is the CEO/Senior Consultant of Pastor Church Solutions, a church consulting firm that provides practical solutions for emerging clergy, congregations and communities.
